Monsey area Kosher Supermarkets Advertise Summer Dairy Menu’s and Takeout before the 9 Days

It looks like every kosher grocery and kosher supermarket in the greater Monsey, NY area in Rockland County is trying to outdo each other with full color glossy ads advertising dairy and pareve menus right before the upcoming “Nine Days”.

Local shopping publications like the “Community Connections” have full color ads from a couple of the area kosher supermarkets. Some outright advertising “Nine Days”. Rockland Kosher Supermarket has a new theme right now for it’s campaign called “Refresh”. The urge the community to “Leave the cooking mess to us!”. The full color ads advertise Pizza, grilled fish, falafel (my favorite), ice cream with dripping chocolate, razzles, smoothies and other summer favorites. They did not outright advertise this as “Lekuved the Nine Days”, but it is right on time! I’m not here to complain. Klal Yisroel needs parnusah and todays Jewish moms work very hard and can use a break… Just saying… If I may… That the nine days were not meant to enjoy ourselves. The first nine days of the month of Av, and also the morning of the tenth, are days of acute mourning for the destruction of the first and second Holy Temples. But were destroyed in the same day. During this time, we don’t eat meat (including poultry) or drink wine. That is why we eat dairy and pareve dishes. So let’s keep this to a minimum and let’s not “Celebrate” the nine days.

I’m not here to bash anyone… I’m just saying we should not overdo it. You know… We should not “Celebrate” the nine days. My kids love the nine days. They don’t have to eat chicken and rice… Just pizza, blintzes and other kid friendly foods. And Hashem, don’t you see we don’t like to do the nine days? Why don’t you take it away from us by bringing Mosiach and building the Bais Hamikdush!
