Beth Jacob of Irvine

We are an innovative and warm Orthodox synagogue. Our Irvine location is in the heart of Orange County between Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The traditional religious observance and values offered both enhance and enrich the contemporary Jewish lifestyle.

Beth Jacob proudly stands on 3900 Michelson Drive as testimony to a dream fulfilled. With an ever-growing, diverse membership, Beth Jacob enjoys a blend of Jews with different backgrounds. Our mix of Americans, Brits, Europeans, Israelis, Persians, South Americans, and South Africans creates a unique flavor which permeates our environment, and fosters an atmosphere of cooperation and mutual respect.

Beth Jacob prides itself on being the only Shul in Orange County that has services twice a day, 365 days a year. Our Shabbat and Holiday services are especially enjoyable due to our talented choir.

History

Beth Jacob Congregation of Irvine (Beth Jacob) began in the summer of 1986 with a small group of Jews who wanted to establish a modern community based on traditional Jewish values. From storefronts to bowling alleys these Jews wandered in search of a permanent home to call their own.

Today, Beth Jacob proudly stands on 3900 Michelson Drive as testimony to a dream fulfilled. With an ever-growing, diverse membership, Beth Jacob enjoys a blend of Jews with different backgrounds. Meet Rabbi Ciner

Rabbi Ciner and his family have joined our community, bringing years of experience in working on behalf of Klal Yisroel with people of all ages.

Prior to returning to the United States in 2002, Rabbi Ciner was a full time Rabbi and Maggid Shiur at Yeshiva Neveh Zion in Jerusalem for 15 years. Most recently, Rabbi Ciner served as the Rabbi of Congregation Ohaiv Shalom in New Hempstead, NY. He was also a Senior Instructor and the Israel Studies Guidance Counselor at Westchester Hebrew High School, where he taught Gemara, Chumash, Jewish Thought and Halacha.

Rabbi Ciner has come to Irvine in order to focus his energy on building a great and thriving community around a shul. Rabbi and Rebbetzin Ciner have eight children (including one daughter in-law). Two of their children have joined them in California.

Sepharadi Services

Beth Jacob Congregation proudly conducts a Sephardic Minyan prayer service. The Beth Jacob Sephardic Minyan is a dynamic and spirited prayer service that brings together people hailing from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including Morocco, Tunisia, Iran, India, South Africa, and Israel.

Every Shabbat morning, the Beth Jacob Sephardic Minyan gathers in its setting and worships according to the traditional customs and nusach of Edot HaMizrach. The Sephardic Minyan typically begins their Shabbat services at 8:30 a.m., marked by a beautiful prayer style that includes singing beautiful traditional melodies (piyutim). The atmosphere is charged with energy from the beginning of the service through the repetition of the Amidah, when the Kohanim bless the congregants in accordance with the Sephardic nusach.

When it was founded last year, the Beth Jacob Sephardi Minyan received a beautiful Sefer Torah as a remarkable gift loan from Rabbi Pinto of Los Angeles. Everyone benefits from the gift because the congregants alternate Torah-reading responsibilities among themselves. Since their forming, the group has blossomed into a dynamic and well respected community within Beth Jacob Congregation, adding panache and an important element of cultural diversity within Beth Jacob
