Located in the capital city of New Zealand, the Wellington Jewish Community was established in 1843. This Jewish community, although small, has had it’s own distinctive impact both within New Zealand and the wider Jewish world.

Jews from all around the world have migrated to picturesque Wellington, and it is this diversity of people that has shaped the life of this city and it’s Hebrew Congregation.

From the opening of the first synagogue on The Terrace in 1870, the Centre moved to Webb Street in 1977, where it is currently located.

The Beth El Congregation is traditional orthodox and is affiliated with the Hebrew Congregations of the British Commonwealth.
