Over 150 years ago, Jews settled in Scranton from Germany, Hungary, Russia and other Eastern European communities. By the mid 1880’s the mining industry attracted shopkeepers and manufacturers as well as doctors, lawyers and rabbis to the Scranton community.
Officially, Machzikeh Hadas was incorporated in October of 1924 and is a vital part of Jewish life in Scranton. We are an Orthodox Synagogue in Scranton PA.
There are:
- Orthodox Synagogue in Scranton PANumerous classes throughout the week for men and women starting with the multiple Daf Yomi Shiurim in the early hours of the morning
- The Scranton Community Kollel is located on the first floor of the shul, with learning opportunities during the day and night with programs for both adults and children
- Bikur Cholim committee
- Tehillim groups for women
- Meals for new mothers and for houses of mourning
- Lending CD and book library
- Shatnes lab
- Youth groups on Shabbos afternoons
- Two morning minyanim as well as Mincha and maariv minyanim
- Our shul is within the Scranton Community Eruv
- Keilim Mikvah on premises
